Intermodal transport

What is intermodal transport?

Intermodal container transport is a form of conveyance in which goods are moved in containers with several means of transportation. For instance; a container is shipped to Rotterdam by container ship. In Rotterdam, the container is loaded onto a barge or a train, and from the barge or train terminal, it is transported by road to its final destination.

The advantages of multimodal transport are that it is often cheaper than transportation solely over land, that the agreed release times are much more reliable, and that it is much more environmentally friendly.
