Intermodal Transport

What is intermodal transport?

Intermodal container transport is a form of conveyance in which goods are moved in containers with several means of transportation. For instance; container is shipped to Rotterdam by container ship. In Rotterdam the container is loaded onto a barge or on a train and from the barge or train terminal the container is transported by road to the final destination.

The big advantage of multimodal transport is that it is often cheaper than
transport solely by road, that the agreed release times are much more reliable and that it is also much more environmentally friendly.
